Aker chooses Euronavy for the conversion project of the FPSO Aker Smart 1
Jurong, Singapore
2007.05.10

Conversion works on the oil tanker Polar Alaska (Suez-max) have already begun at Jurong Shipyard in Singapore for AKER FPSO ASA (Aker Group, Norway). Euronavy will supply all the paint used in the hull conversion, including outer hull, tanks and deck. The use of ES301 solvent-free coatings means that hydroblasting can be used as a surface preparation method. The extended durability of the Euronavy systems in such conditions, the fact that blasting and painting can be carried out whilst other works are being performed in the vicinity, as well as the reduced environmental impact, were decisive when opting for Euronavy technology on this project.
Once converted the FPSO Aker Smart 1 will begin operations in 2008 in Indian territorial waters, at depths of 1100 to 1400 feet and with the capacity to produce 60,000 barrels of oil a day.
